Rather than beat around the bush, I'll ask a direct question...
How many of you would be interested in having me post painting tips - things I've learned directly from my studying with
Richard Schmid and Nancy Guzik? Things I've learned from other master painters, like Jack Beal on composition?
Daughter 6x8, oil painted from life by LW Simons
I've got a lot of knowledge festering in my brain, and it's time to clear it out and share it with others... I think... but first I'd like to know if you would enjoy that kind of thing
For Example:
Richard has a unique but simple way of mixing the darkest darks.
Darks look deeper and richer when they are transparent and when they are warm rather than cool.
So for my accent darks, I mix transparent Oxide Red (Rembrandt) with just a touch of Thalo green for a rich, almost black but warm and transparent color. Dark mixtures that use bluer tones - such as ultramarine blue are great for distant darks since blue/cooler tones don't appear as dark as warmer tones... that use Transp Oxide Red or Alizarin.
Well... lemme know what you think and if things like this would be helpful. I'll include photos.
My first E-book
BUT I'll also continue to write about art marketing and creative productivity. In fact, I've begun work on my first e-book - mostly on creative productivity. It will be offered on Clint Watson's sites - as he has a larger audience than I do. He and I will split the proceeds. I expect to make it affordable and easy to print out.
Would love to hear from you. Email:

Found your blog after reading the Keep on keeping on article. Interesting read.
I would love to hear more tips from the masters.

You are inspiring me to get out the oils again -- well, water-soluble oils due to easier breathing without turps.
Thanks for what I learned here today... tips for all paints, really. I don't use black -- I've mixed Alizarin Crimson and Veridian to get a cool black, and U.Blue and Raw or Burnt Umber to get warm black. I hadn't thought about the transparency though -- thank you.
I look forward to your e-books. And I applaud your plan to get your knowledge out and give it away -- sell it away. (Same thing -- those who want it are willing to pay for it. :) )
Will watch for next TIP. (I love Richard Schmid's work. You must be close enough for personal tutoring?)
