I agree that galleries work for the artist in some sense, although I prefer more of a "team" metaphor. I think the power in the future is going to flow to those who have a following, a "tribe" and have built trust with that tribe. Some galleries do a great job of that and thus have the opportunity to continue to be valuable....perhaps more valuable. Doing it right is hard work though.
